Lehmann Marine Scales Up Battery Production with New Automated Line in Xanthi, Greece
Hittfeld, September 8th, 2026 – Lehmann Marine, a specialist in maritime energy storage solutions and a subsidiary of Sunlight Group, has significantly expanded its global production capacity with the commissioning of a dedicated manufacturing line at Sunlight Group’s industrial complex in Northern Greece (Xanthi).
The expansion marks a strategic milestone for the company. Following the assembly and quality verification of the first 82 CUBE battery modules, the new Xanthi line is now fully operational. Modules will be shipped weekly from Greece to Lehmann Marine’s recently expanded headquarters in Hittfeld, Germany, for final system integration, testing, and distribution. Once fully ramped up, the specific automated line is targeted to produce up to 300 MWh annually for maritime applications, with the option for additional production lines to be added in the future.

”With Sunlight Group, we have a strong industrial partner whose manufacturing scale perfectly complements our specialised engineering capabilities,“ said Alexander Lehmann, Managing Director of Lehmann Marine. ”Together, we have created the ideal platform to reliably meet growing customer demand for safe, high-performance maritime battery systems while securing supply chain stability.“
Labros Bisalas, CEO of Sunlight Group, stated ”Our role at Sunlight Group is to elevate Lehmann Marine’s leading marine capabilities with decades of industrial battery manufacturing experience at large scale and with significant vertical integration in critical components. This integrated European model gives our global maritime partners an unmatched advantage: cutting-edge technology, automated mass production, and stability of supply during global supply chain disruptions.“
Strategic Value for the Maritime Sector
To meet tightening environmental mandates, the maritime industry requires rapid, secure access to certified LFP battery systems. The Xanthi expansion combines high-volume industrial-scale cutting project lead times with European supply chain security that insulates clients from global trade disruptions. Every battery system undergoes rigorous dual-stage quality assurance, starting with automated testing in Xanthi and concluding with final commissioning in Hittfeld, ensuring maximum safety and reliability at sea.

About Lehmann Marine GmbH: Lehmann Marine is a Germany-based leader in the shipping industry’s advanced lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery systems. The company’s innovative energy solutions are designed to meet the evolving needs of maritime operators, offering safety, reliability, and sustainability through cutting-edge German engineering. The key to success lies in the well-thought-out concept of Lehmann Marine‘s battery systems. The modular and flexible design allows for easy adaptation of the batteries to the individual requirements of various ships. This configurational flexibility, combined with straightforward maintenance due to small and easily accessible battery modules, gives customers unprecedented efficiency and reliability. Another significant advantage is the enhanced safety of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells. Compared to traditional nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries, LFP batteries are considerably safer, even in extreme situations where thermal runaway may occur, as they are not susceptible to fire. In the event of thermal runaway, only gas is released and vented outside. This feature renders Lehmann Marine‘s LFP battery solutions more environmentally friendly and markedly safer for use on board ships. Lehmann Marine is part of the Sunlight Group, a major global player in energy storage systems, and benefits from Sunlight’s large capacities and excellent supplier and service network.
