FIFI4MARINE first battery fire-suppression system to receive RINA Type Approval

FIFI4MARINE receives its RINA Type Approval certificate at SMM Hamburg 2026. Cor Meedendorp and team members accepted the certificate during the official handover.

ZWAAG, THE NETHERLANDS - September 14, 2026 - FIFI4MARINE has become the first battery fire-suppression system to receive RINA Type Approval, marking a significant milestone for fire protection as lithium-ion battery installations rapidly expand across the maritime industry.

The RINA Type Approval certificate was formally presented to founder Cor Meedendorp and team at SMM Hamburg 2026, the world’s leading maritime industry event; a fitting setting for the handover. RINA recognises the FIFI4 solution as an “innovative fire-fighting solution developed to support enhanced fire protection for marine battery installations.”

The approval marks another important milestone for FIFI4MARINE. Type Approval evaluates the approved product design itself for repeat application; reducing the need to begin the same design-assessment process from the start for each new project while still leaving vessel-specific integration, class and statutory requirements to be addressed where applicable.

FIFI4MARINE develops autonomous fire detection and suppression systems designed specifically for battery installations of any chemistry. The system detects thermal runaway at the source, preventing propagation. In addition to marine, the FIFI4 System has been proven in data centre, parking and horticulture industries with standard and customized configurations available.

“Being the first battery fire-suppression system to receive RINA Type Approval is a major milestone for FIFI4MARINE and for the work our team has put into this technology. Battery fire safety cannot be treated as an afterthought as electrification grows. Our focus has always been to detect early, and limit escalation before a single event becomes a much larger problem. This approval is an important validation of that approach and a major step in making the solution quicker to implement across the global maritime market.”

— Cor Meedendorp, FIFI4MARINE
