Christian Fjell

Director Sustainability, Altera Infrastructure


Christian Fjell is currently the Director, Sustainability in Altera Infrastructure; previously known as Teekay Offshore, in the Shuttle and Storage Business Unit where he is part of the Senior Leadership Team. Here his main function is overseeing the alignment of the group’s sustainability vision and defining and embedding the sustainability strategy across the business unit organization spanning from operations, through projects & newbuilds to finance.

He holds a master’s degree in Naval Architecture from NTNU in Trondheim, Norway in 2007. Before joining Teekay in 2011 Christian worked 4 years in DNV’s Maritime Advisory functions in Oslo, Singapore, and Dubai. His 12 years in Teekay/Altera has been varied in roles in operations, projects, and business development. Christian is also the Chairman of Stavanger Ship Owner’s Association and is chairing the Climate and Environmental Committee in Norwegian Ship Owner’s Association. His varied background has a common red thread – A true passion for shipping and taking complex problems and breaking them down to bite size chunks and utilize collaboration to realize positive change. Decarbonizing shipping is the most complex problem to date, so all-hands-on-deck is required.
