Terma joins Maritime Battery Forum to help accelerate safer, more reliable maritime electrification
Danish defense and aerospace technology company brings proven battery testing and validation expertise to support industry standards, safety, and scalable adoption of marine batteries.
The Maritime Battery Forum (MBF) today announced that Terma has joined its global community of maritime battery stakeholders, bringing deep expertise in testing and validation to support the safe, reliable, and scalable adoption of battery-powered and hybrid vessels.
As shipowners and system integrators move from pilot projects to wider deployment, battery performance and lifetime predictability become business-critical. Terma’s contribution will focus on strengthening confidence in battery systems through rigorous characterization and validation, helping MBF members reduce technical risk, improve safety assurance, and accelerate time to operational readiness.
Headquartered in Denmark, Terma develops mission-critical technology for defense, aerospace, and security applications across land, sea, air, and space. The company’s capabilities span command and control systems, radar, self-protection solutions for ships and aircraft, space technology, and multi-domain systems integration.
Turning battery data into operational confidence
Terma brings to MBF its Battery Cell Tester platform, a high-precision, energy-regenerative system originally developed through space technology programs. The platform supports characterization and validation of battery cells for both research and industrial production, enabling a clearer understanding of real-world performance, reliability, and lifetime expectations.
Already used in automotive and aerospace environments, Terma sees strong potential to transfer this validation approach to maritime applications where safety, uptime, and total cost of ownership are paramount. Terma is also working with battery manufacturers preparing to enter the marine market, helping bridge innovation with deployment needs.
Working with MBF members to raise the bar
By joining MBF, Terma aims to collaborate with shipowners, technology developers, and other industry partners to support practical, shared learning and contribute to best practices that help maritime batteries scale responsibly.
“Terma is proud to join the Maritime Battery Forum. We look forward to contributing our battery cell testing expertise, while collaborating with the Forum’s global members to accelerate safer, more reliable, and more sustainable battery solutions for the maritime industry”
The Maritime Battery Forum welcomed Terma’s membership as an addition that strengthens the link between power electronics, battery validation, and maritime innovation, supporting the sector’s transition toward electrification and hybrid systems.
