IEC Maritime Battery Safety Standard

The International Electrotechnical Committee has established a working group to develop a new safety standard for maritime battery systems. The aim is to develop minimum safety requirements covering internal and external risks and hazards for maritime battery installations. After publication, the standard can be referenced by class societies and national authorities, and also serve as a reference for market segments which are currently not covered by other rules. A broad industry representation in the effort will ensure confidence in the outcome, and we encourage members of the MBF to join this initiative.

The proposed draft standard is enclosed HERE. We encourage industry members to join the working group through their national IEC committees.

If you have any questions, please contact Jacob Jenu-Hauge, convenor of Working Group 34 – Maritime Battery Systems (jjenuhauge@sensata.com)

If you need help with joining the IEC technical committee, please contact Arild Røed, secretary of TC18 – Electrical installations of ships and of mobile and fixed offshore units (Arild.Roed@nek.no)
