MARITECH Conference Victoria BC

  • Victoria Conference Centre 720 Douglas Street Victoria, BC, V8W 3M7 Canada (map)

The MBF will organize the Marine Battery Course at MARITECH on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM

Now in its third year at MARITECH, this 4-hour course provides a practical, systems-level introduction to the use of large lithium-ion battery systems in commercial vessels. Designed for naval architects, marine engineers, operators, and regulators, the session focuses on how batteries are successfully and safely integrated into the overall ship design. Topics include whole-ship electrical architecture, risk management, fire safety considerations, and the operational realities of hybrid and fully electric vessels.

Building on previous editions, the 2026 course will place additional emphasis on the human element of maritime electrification, including requirements for crew training, onboard procedures, and competency development—aligning with the MARITECH conference theme of “Skilled Seas.” Participants will gain insight into how operational practices, maintenance strategies, and emergency response planning must evolve when batteries become a primary energy source.

As the industry faces increasing demands for innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence, there is a growing need for a highly skilled, diverse and adaptable workforce to meet the challenges ahead.

MARITECH 2026 will explore how the marine engineering community is building the next generation of skilled professionals, advancing technical training, and adopting emerging technologies to support a more resilient and future-ready industry. From simulation and AI to workforce planning and hands-on experience, the conference will bring together marine engineers, educators, regulators, shipyards, and vessel operators to share insights and best practices that strengthen our collective capacity.

Held annually, MARITECH 2026 is hosted by the CIMarE Vancouver Island Branch, with support from the SNAME Canadian Pacific Section and Association of British Columbia Marine Industries. The event will take place in beautiful Victoria, BC.
