Member Collaboration Projects
The Maritime Battery Forum was founded with the aim of promoting new and efficient energy storage technologies in the maritime industry. With over 75 members in 3 continents, the MBF works to disseminate information, facilitate discussion about and review new technology which is complementary to battery technology based solutions or in one way or the other play an important role towards a zero-emission vision.

Battery Container Standardisation JIP
The concept of a swappable, containerized battery systems is being explored by many in the maritime battery industry. Battery containers can offer great operational flexibility and open up a large potential for new business models providing energy to ships and ports. The Battery Container Standardisation JIP is a collaboration between members of the Maritime Battery Forum to identify the different requirements for swappable battery containers on board different types of maritime applications, and to create an overview of the different interfaces between container and ship, and their available standards.
This first version of the guideline provides an overview of containerized maritime battery systems. The next steps in this collaboration project are to perform a market study, by adding the statistics on containerized battery systems to the MBF Ship Register.
Shore Power in the UK- a forum initiative
MBF has taken initiative to influence quicker development and installation of shore power in the UK and in particular Aberdeen, Montrose and Peterhead. On March 16 2021, a kick-off meeting was held, where the interest group was established. A working committee, with key people from the interest group, was formed at the meeting. Currently there are no new updates regarding the Shore Power UK initiative. If you’re interested in re-engaging on the topic of shore power, related to any location in the world, please send a message to: director@maritimebatteryforum.com
